Primer XEHC Internacional!
Per celebrar l'arribada del fred, el XEHC ha preparat la seva primera edició “International”. Es tracta d'una visita d'un estudiant de doctorat estranger, en aquest cas d'Anglaterra (ni més ni menys que de Cambridge). Aprofitant la seva participació en el Workshop Internacional “Gendered Drug Standards, Historical and Socio-Anthropological prespectives” a Granada, Jesse Olszynko-Gyn, a més de fer-nos practicar l'anglès, ens exposarà una petita història dels tests d'embaràs. Olszynko-Gyn ha proposat, a més, un parell de lectures (que trobareu adjuntes) molt curtes, senzilles i, fins i tot, divertides per introduir-nos en el tema.El XEHC repetirà seu en el Cafè de les Delícies, a la Rambla de Raval, on de ben segur estarem molt tranquils, ara bé, esperem que aquesta vegada estiguem una mica més il·luminats!Fins dimecres 30! "A history of the pregnancy test"Xerrada conduïda per Jesse Olszynko-Gyn
Jesse Olszynko-Gyn is a PhD student in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Cambridge University. He works on the history of the pregnancy test, first marketed directly to women in 1971. His research concentrates on mid-twentieth-century Britain (c.1930-1970), when pregnancy testing was a diagnostic service offered by a few specialised laboratories. As part of the social history of pregnancy, he uses diaries, letters, newspapers, magazines, novels and films to recover and contextualise the changing experience of early pregnancy from self-diagnosis and clinical examination to laboratory and home testing as well as the more general transformation of patients into consumers.He is a member of the "Generation to Reproduction" team: http://www.reproduction.group.cam.ac.uk/index.html
